FilmNation Entertainment has brought former studio chief Stacey Snider aboard as chief creative officer to sharpen its film and television operations, while quietly expanding its role in domestic rights on select projects.
The Details
FilmNation hired Snider as chief creative officer in December 2025, with a January 5 start date, according to Deadline. In a May 2026 interview, Snider said she had been at the company for about five months and was focused on overseeing film and TV productions alongside the existing team.
FilmNation founder Glen Basner told Deadline that Snider's hire was aimed at sharpening the company's core business rather than launching new divisions. "It's not part of sort of a grand plan of doing other types of businesses," Basner said. "It's about doing what we've been doing really well for almost 18 years and saying 'but really well isn't well enough anymore. We need to do great'."
Snider said FilmNation's focus on original filmmaking aligned with her priorities. "Original movies matter, and they're harder and harder to make," she told Deadline.
FilmNation has begun selectively co-representing domestic rights on new projects alongside its longstanding international sales business. For Edward Zwick's Asymmetry, starring Richard Gere and Diana Silvers, FilmNation is handling international sales and co-repping domestic rights with CAA Media Finance Group, Deadline reported.
For Last Dance, starring Rachel Zegler and Adrien Brody, FilmNation will launch international sales at the Cannes market while Fifth Season and CAA Media Finance Group handle domestic rights, according to Deadline.
The company also strengthened its leadership bench by hiring former Amazon, Sony and Fox executive Laine Kline in May 2025 as general counsel and head of business and legal affairs. Kline's role spans film, TV, podcast, theatre and FilmNation's Infrared label.
Context
FilmNation has built a strong awards profile in recent years. Its projects include Anora, which won five Oscars including Best Picture, and Conclave, which won an Oscar for adapted screenplay.
Snider previously led major Hollywood studios and spent four years at Sister before joining FilmNation.
FilmNation's 2026 Cannes slate includes Asymmetry and Last Dance, with the company continuing to lead international sales while testing broader involvement in domestic rights.
What's Next
FilmNation will continue to lead international sales on its Cannes 2026 titles. The company is co-repping domestic rights on Asymmetry with CAA Media Finance Group, while Fifth Season and CAA Media Finance Group handle domestic on Last Dance.
The extent of any broader move into full domestic distribution remains unclear. Current activity is limited to selective co-representation on individual projects rather than a confirmed launch of a full-scale domestic distribution division.
