King Charles III travelled to Golders Green on 14 May to meet survivors of the 29 April stabbing attack and offer support to the local Jewish community, accompanied by Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis.

The Details

During the visit, the King met Shloime Rand, 34, and 76-year-old Moshe Shine, referred to in court as Norman Shine, at a Jewish Care charity centre. Both men were victims of the stabbing incident that took place in Golders Green last month. The Jewish Chronicle reported that the King offered heartfelt condolences to Michael (Moshe) Shine while speaking with him during the visit.

While leaving the centre, the King spoke briefly with members of the public. According to BBC News, he remarked to one man in the crowd, "it's a dangerous world isn't it?"

The stabbings on 29 April occurred in Golders Green, a north London area with a large Jewish population. Members of the volunteer security group Shomrim were involved in responding to the attack.

Essa Suleiman, 45, appeared in court on 1 May accused of two counts of attempted murder in connection with the stabbings.

Context

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis accompanied the King during the visit. He said the royal trip to Golders Green was "appreciated enormously" by the community.

The Jewish Chronicle reported the visit against a backdrop of a surge in antisemitic hate crimes in the UK in recent weeks.

What's Next

Essa Suleiman faces two counts of attempted murder. No further court dates or case updates were included in available source material.
