The OHSAA Southeast District released its 2026 baseball tournament brackets on May 12, setting matchups for four Adams County teams vying for postseason advancement.
The Details
West Union, Manchester, Peebles and North Adams each discovered their opening-round opponents and seeding as the district outlined the path from play-in games through the finals. West Union is the county's lone representative in Division V, while Manchester, Peebles and North Adams were all placed in Division VI.
According to the official OHSAA Southeast District baseball page, Division V first-round games are scheduled for May 18, Division VI quarterfinals for May 19, and district finals for May 26 or May 28 depending on division.
West Union enters the postseason as the No. 20 seed in Division V and is scheduled to travel to Chesapeake for a play-in game on May 18. The winner advances to a quarterfinal matchup at No. 4 Zane Trace.
In Division VI, Manchester drew the No. 5 seed and is set to host No. 12 Eastern Brown on May 19. The Greyhounds moved into Division VI this season after previously competing in Division VII, a shift determined by competitive balance numbers.
Peebles earned the No. 6 seed in Division VI and will host No. 11 Beaver Eastern on May 19. The Indians finished the regular season with a 14-8 record, the best mark among the county's four qualifiers.
North Adams landed the No. 9 seed and will open the tournament on the road at No. 8 Symmes Valley on May 19. Manchester enters the postseason at 10-8, while North Adams closed the regular season at 10-12. West Union finished 2-16.
At the time of bracket release, the Southeast District tournament structure included 20 teams in Division V and 14 teams in Division VI.
Context
The bracket release marks the culmination of the regular season for Adams County's baseball programs, with postseason play beginning immediately next week. Local coaches acknowledged the stakes of single-elimination format as they assessed their draws.
"We got the seed I was expecting to get going into the draw," Manchester head coach Trey Meade said. "We have Eastern Brown, who has been playing better baseball lately. It's just survive and advance at this point of the year."
North Adams head coach Ryan Unger expressed a similar outlook after his team drew the No. 9 seed. "I wanted that 8 seed to be able to host a game but I knew we would fall between 8 and 10," Unger said. "If we can put a whole game together, we are a dangerous team. This draw allows us to play teams that we know very little about, which sometimes helps in baseball."
What's Next
All four Adams County teams are slated to begin tournament play on either May 18 or May 19, depending on division. West Union must win its play-in game at Chesapeake to reach the Division V quarterfinal round at Zane Trace. Manchester, Peebles and North Adams each face single-elimination openers in Division VI on May 19, with the winners advancing within the 14-team bracket toward the district final on May 26.
