The stage adaptation ‘Paranormal Activity – A New Story Live on Broadway’ will begin previews on August 14, 2026, with an opening night scheduled for September 15 at the August Wilson Theatre. The production is set for a limited 20-week engagement. Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse and an original producer of the film franchise, has joined the producing team for the Broadway transfer.

The Details

The Broadway production is written by Levi Holloway and directed by Felix Barrett. Rather than directly adapting characters from the film series, the stage version follows an original story centered on two characters named James and Lou.

The show has already completed sold-out or prior runs in London’s West End and in multiple U.S. cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. Boston will serve as the final pre-Broadway stop in July 2026.

The West End production received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.

Felix Barrett, who also created the immersive theater production ‘Sleep No More,’ said of the Broadway move: "New York is my home away from home. I fell in love with the city when making Sleep No More fifteen years ago, and always marveled at the way audiences engaged with the show."

Writer Levi Holloway added: "That Paranormal Activity has earned the chance to trouble the sleep of Broadway audiences, that they’ll be immersed in the waking nightmare we’ve had the privilege to make, is the stuff of dreams."

Paramount executive Josh Silverman, speaking on the franchise’s expansion to the stage, said: "Paranormal Activity changed the horror landscape, and bringing the franchise to Broadway allows us to continue expanding that world in a bold and immersive way."

Context

The original ‘Paranormal Activity’ film, released in 2007, was made for roughly $15,000 and became one of the most profitable movies ever, launching a franchise that has grossed more than $900 million globally.

A new installment in the film franchise is set for release in May 2027. James Wan and Jason Blum are producing alongside Oren Peli.

What's Next

The production will play its final pre-Broadway stop in Boston in July 2026 before beginning previews at the August Wilson Theatre on August 14. The limited Broadway engagement is scheduled to run for 20 weeks. Separately, a new film in the franchise is slated for May 2027.
