In its first quarterly business review under new leadership, Finnish game studio Remedy Entertainment said it will "double down on what makes the studio unique" as it navigates a volatile games market, a recent executive transition, and the lead-up to its next major release.
The Details
Remedy Entertainment published its Q1 2026 business review on Tuesday, with newly appointed CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon outlining a strategy centered on the studio's creative identity, franchise expansion, and self-publishing.
"The gaming industry and market have always been dynamic, now more volatile than ever," Gaudechon said in a statement included in the review. "As the industry searches for its footing, Remedy will double down on what makes the studio unique: our creative identity, memorable IPs, and commitment to delivering exceptional quality and originality."
The company said its priorities include franchise expansion, self-publishing, and commercial discipline aimed at improving business performance. Gaudechon assumed the CEO role effective March 1, 2026, following an appointment announced in February.
Remedy also reported that Control, the studio's 2019 supernatural action title, has sold more than 6 million copies over its lifetime. The company said first-quarter sales of the original game were helped by added visibility ahead of the upcoming sequel.
CONTROL Resonant, the next entry in the franchise, remains on track for a 2026 release, according to the review. Marketing activity for the title began ramping up during the first quarter. Gaudechon said the company is committed to making the game "a must-have day-one purchase for the fans of Control and for gamers worldwide."
Financially, Remedy reported first-quarter revenue of 13.1 million euros and EBITDA of 2.9 million euros, characterizing the period as profitable. The company said it is maintaining what it described as a focus on core strengths and commercial discipline.
Context
Gaudechon's appointment as CEO followed a leadership transition at the Finnish studio, which has developed titles including Control and Alan Wake. According to a report from The Verge published Tuesday, the prior CEO stepped down after the company's multiplayer shooter FBC: Firebreak underperformed at launch. The Verge framed Gaudechon's statement as a response to that fallout and the leadership transition that followed.
In the business review, Gaudechon framed the studio's creative culture as a long-term asset built over decades. "Remedy's DNA is a product of an ambitious creative culture that has been carefully built over three decades," he said. "Protecting and reinforcing that culture and letting it compound is ultimately how we create value and is a key priority for me as the CEO."
Wccftech independently reported the same quarterly figures and noted that Remedy is targeting 2027 goals of doubling its 2024 revenue and reaching a 30 percent EBITDA margin.
What's Next
Remedy has said CONTROL Resonant is scheduled for release in 2026, with marketing activity already increasing during the first quarter. The studio has also outlined financial targets for 2027, including doubling its 2024 revenue and achieving a 30 percent EBITDA margin.
